Notes and rules for searching:

  1. A text string may contain spaces (for example, People of the Book). This example is one search term.
  2. Multiple search terms may be specified by using ampersand (&). The string Jews&Christians will locate every verse which contains both these terms, wherever they may occur in the verse, in whichever order. The string Good&People of the Book will locate every verse containing both the term good and the term people of the book.
  3. If you search for a single term, it must be at least 2 characters long. Note that a space is treated as a character. If you search for multiple terms then only one of them needs to be at least 2 characters long. (For example, you could search for book&a).
  4. This search also reports the occurrence of the search term within words. So searching for believe will also find believed, disbelieve etc. A search for an will find an, and, another, land, than etc. You could use a space before and after an to locate the word an occurring with spaces before and after it.
  5. The Bismillah verse, “In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful”, is not included in the search.
  6. The only non-keyboard characters in the translation are these three:

    ’  ‘ and —

The first one (’) is used as apostrophe (as in Pharaoh’s), and it is used three times in transliteration (see list below).
The second one (‘) is used in transliteration (see list below).
The third one is only a punctuation mark (the dash).

To enter any of these non-keyboard characters into the search box, you can highlight, copy and paste it from these instructions.

Given below is a list of all the words (some of which occur several times in the translation) containing these characters as marks of transliteration:
    sa’ibah
    Saba’
    Ra‘i-na
    ‘Arafat
    Ka‘bah
    ‘Ad
    Shu‘aib
    Ba‘l
    Tubba‘
    ‘Uzza
    Suwa‘
    Ya‘uq
